Writers' Retreats

The retreats have been designed to give writers peace and quiet in an inspiring and supportive environment. It is the opportunity to get on with work in progress and for relaxation you can walk along the beach and the river or take a trip out to Portmeirion or into the mountains of Snowdonia.

Tŷ Newydd was Lloyd George’s last home and has beautiful, secluded gardens and stunning views over Cardigan Bay. Everyone has a single room and most of these are en-suite. There is a bedroom suitable for wheelchair users or those with mobility impairment. We are always happy to discuss and help with access and any special needs.

All food is provided. We ask you to help yourself to breakfast and lunch and to help prepare one evening meal as part of a team. Vegetarians and people with special dietary needs are catered for – please let us know in advance (see booking form).

Our retreats are open to everyone, at all ages and level of experience and in whatever genre or language they choose to write.

TUTOR2

Afon Fach
Self- Catering Accommodation for Writers

Afon Fach is a small 2-bedroomed cottage on the end of a row of 4 single-storey cottages, which have been converted from farm buildings on the Tŷ Newydd site. They look out over the gardens to the sea and mountains beyond.  Tŷ Newydd is situated just outside the village of Llanystumdwy and is reached by a private drive. It is therefore away from traffic and is surrounded by fields and copses. Ideal for those who seek peace and quiet to write. The sea is 15 minutes’ walk away and there are lots of wonderful walks starting from Tŷ Newydd. There is a pub with restaurant and a riverside café (only open in the summer) in Llanystumdwy (5 minutes’ walk) and Cricieth is only a mile away, where there are plenty of shops, pubs and a railway station.  The Lloyd George Museum in Llanystumdwy and the castle in Cricieth make interesting places to visit and Tŷ Newydd is also an ideal starting point for trips to Snowdonia or the Lleyn Peninsula.

Afon Fach has two bedrooms; one with a double bed, the other with twin beds.  The kitchen/living room is fully equipped but there is no T.V. or radio.  There is also no internet access at the cottage.  The bathroom has a shower unit. The water is heated by an immersion heater.

There are night storage heaters in the living area and in both bedrooms (which don’t come off the meter) and a wall mounted fan heater in the bathroom. Electricity is on a meter, which takes £1 coins. (N.B. This additional expense should be taken into account during the winter months.)

Duvets, pillows and bed linen are provided but towels/tea towels are not.
There is ample parking space.

We expect guests to leave the cottage clean and tidy when they leave.

The cost per week is:
£150 during the Winter months (November – March) and
£200 during the Spring/Summer months (April – October)

A deposit of £100 is required on booking and the balance is due 4 weeks prior to the rented week.
Cheques should be made payable to the Taliesin Trust Ltd.
Please contact Tŷ Newydd to discuss rates for longer lets of 3 or more weeks or if you have any queries about Afon Fach or need to check availability.
