STEPPING UP- An advanced course in writing drama for stage or radio
August 4-9 David Britton
and Jessica Dromgoole
Residential: £480 (single)  £420 (shared)

Many writers negotiate the first hurdle into performance, but after the first play, what then? This intensive course aims to extend a writer’s potential beyond the basics, concentrating on the development of one-off drama scripts, for stage and radio. It is conducted through a combination of group sessions and individual mentoring. Participants should have had at least one script broadcast, published or performed (at any level) or have achieved similar early success in a related field. They should bring with them a work-in-progress for practical development during the week.

There will be a maximum of 12 students on this course.

JESSICA DROMGOOLE
is a producer for BBC Radio Drama.  After ten years working as a theatre director, specialising in new writing, and as literary manager of Paines Plough, Jessica joined the BBC, introducing talented writers to the networks, and the BBC to writers.  Jessica became a radio producer, joining the team of Westway, the World Service's twice weekly soap, for its final year.  Using her newly honed series skills, she travelled to Pakistan for the World Service Trust to launch an Urdu soap there, Piyar ka Passport, which highlighted the issues surrounding forced marriage.  She now produces radio plays for Radio 3, Radio 4 and Radio Five Live, (winning the Prix Italia for Best Original Radio Drama 2007) and worked with David Britton on two series of his adaptation of Old Peter's Russian Tales, for the Woman's Hour.
