POETRY, MEMOIR AND FICTION

This popular course welcomes new and experienced writers who look to broaden their horizons within or beyond their favourite genres, with an emphasis on choice and on taking their work to the next level. The borders between poetry and prose, craft and intuition, truth and invention will once again be explored. A combination of workshops and one-to-one tutorials, within a friendly, supportive environment, will help participants to take risks and move forward in their work. Early booking recommended.

PAUL HENRY
is the author of five collections of poetry, the most recent of which is Ingrid’s Husband (Seren).  Described by U.A.Fanthorpe as “a poet’s poet”, he came to poetry through songwriting and has appeared at festivals across Europe. His various jobs have included actor, careers adviser, arts administrator, and university lecturer. A popular creative writing tutor, he presents the ‘Inspired’ series of arts programmes for BBC Radio Wales. www.paulhenrywales.co.uk

OWEN SHEERS
was born in Fiji in 1974 and brought up in Abergavenny. He has written two collections of poetry, The Blue Book and Skirrid Hill (Seren) for which he won a 2006 Somerset Maugham Award. From 2008 Skirrid Hill will be an A level set text. His debut prose work The Dust Diaries (Faber 2004), a travel memoir set in Zimbabwe won the Welsh Book of the Year 2005. he recently collaborated with the coposer Rachel Portman on The Water Diviner's Tale, a children's oratorio for the BBc Proms. His first novel, Resistance, was published by Faber in June 2007 and is translated into 9 languages. www.owensheers.co.uk
