POETRY AS DIALOGUE : Two poets from different linguistic backgrounds come together on this course with the aim of inspiring writers at all levels of experience to explore new attitudes and methods of approaching their writing. A chance to explore too new writing in other cultures and celebrate the joy of difference. Those who'd like to attempt translation from languages other than English would be welcomed; from Sappho or the Odyssey to contemporary writing.

TUTOR1

Menna Elfyn
Award winning poet and playwright, she is the author of nine volumes of poetry. Her most recent collection is Perffaith Nam (Gomer , 2005), which will appear in Welsh – English parallel in her New & Selected Poems, from Bloodaxe in autumn, 2007. She has also written scripts for television and radio and novels for children. In 2002, she was made Bardd Plant Cymru-Children’s Poet Laureate of Wales. She is Writing Director of the Masters Programme in Creative Writing at Trinity College Carmarthen. He work has been translated into eighteen languages.

Amir Or
is a poet, teacher, translator, and editor. He is the author of eight volumes of poetry. His latest book in Hebrew, The Song of Tahira is a fictional epic in metered prose. His forthcoming book The Museum of Time was written in both Hebrew and English and is about to be published in Israel and the UK. Or's poems have been published in more than 30 languages, including four books in English translation, as well as books in Arabic, Macedonian, Serbian, Polish and Romanian. In 1990 he founded Helicon, the Society for the Advancement of Poetry, and in 1993 he set up the Arabic-Hebrew Helicon Poetry School. Amir is a founding member of the European Network of Creative Writing Programs, and serves as the National Coordinator of the U.N.-sponsored Poets for Peace.
