WRITING OASIS
April 8-10 (weekend) Victoria Field

This course is designed for writers in need of refreshment and for people who may have a professional interest in the therapeutic and transformative benefits of creative writing. Participants will draw on their own life journey to create new work – whether poetry, fiction or memoir – and explore techniques for developing these drafts into more sustained pieces. The emphasis will be on process and experiment in a non-judgemental atmosphere.

For anyone using literature therapeutically or working towards accreditation, certificates of attendance for CPD purposes can be provided.

VICTORIA FIELD works as a writer and poetry therapist in a variety of health, education and community settings. She is a former Director of Survivors Poetry and had two periods chairing Lapidus, the UK’s organisation for reading and writing for health and well-being. She has co-edited three books on therapeutic writing, most recently Writing Routes (Jessica Kingsley, 2010) and has published two collections of poetry: the second Many Waters was based on a residency at Truro Cathedral. She is an Associate Artist of Hall for Cornwall who have produced two of her plays.  She qualified as a Poetry Therapist with the US National Association for Poetry Therapy in 2005 and will be a Hawthornden Fellow in 2012.

PENELOPE SHUTTLE has lived in Cornwall since 1970.  She is the widow of the poet Peter Redgrove, (1932-2003).  Her new collection Sandgrain and Hourglass, appeared from Bloodaxe Books in October 2010, and is a Recommendation of The Poetry Book Society. Shuttle’s 2006 collection, Redgrove's Wife (Bloodaxe Books)  was short-listed for the Forward Prize for Best Single Collection, and for the T S Eliot Award. In 2007 she was awarded a Cholmondeley Award for Poetry. She is a Poetry Tutor for The Arvon Foundation, Almaserra Vella, Le Moulin, The Poetry School, Second Light Network and Tŷ Newydd, and is also a mentor for poets. She has been a judge for many major poetry competitions. Her work has been recorded for The Poetry Archive. She is a member of Lapidus.
