| The aim of the Taliesin Trust is to enable all those who would benefit from a writing course at Tŷ Newydd to do so. A bursary fund has therefore been set up to give financial help to those who would be unable to afford the full course fee. The fund is limited and there is no guarantee that everyone who applies will receive a bursary. It is recognised that being unemployed, on income support or being a full-time student are not the only reasons for not being able to afford the full fees. We would be grateful therefore, if you do not come under one of these headings, if you would explain briefly your circumstances and the reasons for your application for a bursary. This can be done below or in a separate letter. We would also like to know why the course you have applied for would be of particular benefit to you.
We ask you to be honest about the amount of bursary money that you need. The more you take, the less there is for other people. We are always happy to make arrangements for people to pay in instalments, if this helps. Arrangements should be made with Awen Hamilton at Tŷ Newydd. If you have any queries please phone us on 01766 522811, tynewydd@literaturewales.org .

THE JUDI THWAITE BURSARY was set up in memory of Judi Thwaite, a poet and painter, for poets living outside Wales. Details from Tŷ Newydd.
THE WILFRED OWEN BURSARY. The Wilfred Owen Association was formed in 1989 to commemorate the life and work of the poet who died in the final week of the First World War, and whose work, as time goes on, seems to have more and more of an influence on those who come after him.
Wilfred Owen’s friend and mentor, the poetSiegfried Sassoon, wrote of the way in which Owen exemplifies “the privilege and deprivation of never growing old” and of “the dramatic illusion of completeness” which we get from his poetry. Owen himself would have been astonished by the power with which his voice carries still, not much less than a hundred years after his death.
The WOA does whatever it can to promote and encourage an awareness and appreciation of Owen's poetry; and wherever we can, we offer practical support for students of literature and future poets, through links with education and support for literary foundations. We look forward very much to sponsoring poets – of any age or any background – who want to come to Tŷ Newydd but need some help with the cost. It is not necessary for an applicant to be a “war poet”: there can be many ways of picking up, and carrying forward, Wilfred Owen’s poetic voice. All we ask is that you send Tŷ Newydd a statement of your needs and some samples of your work for us to look at. We intend this to be a long partnership, and we look forward to hearing from you.
